यह शब्द पुरानी फ़्रेंच charité से आया है, जो लैटिन caritas (“प्रियता, प्रेम, दान/करुणा”) से निकला है; caritas, लैटिन carus (“प्रिय”) से बना है।
Definition
Charity is the act of freely giving money, goods, or time to help people in need, and it can also mean an institution set up to provide such help; in religious or older contexts it can mean loving-kindness toward others.
चैरिटी (दान/परोपकार) का अर्थ है जरूरतमंद लोगों की मदद के लिए स्वेच्छा से धन, वस्तुएँ या समय देना; यह ऐसे कार्य करने वाली संस्था के लिए भी प्रयुक्त होता है; धार्मिक या पुराने संदर्भों में इसका अर्थ दूसरों के प्रति प्रेम-करुणा भी होता है।
