From New Latin Cercopithecidae (the family name), from the genus name Cercopithecus, ultimately from Greek kérkos ‘tail’ + pithēkos ‘ape/monkey’.

A cercopithecid is any primate belonging to the family Cercopithecidae, the Old World monkeys, found mainly in Africa and Asia and including macaques, baboons, and guenons.
