Definition
A census is a government (or official) survey that counts people (and often records details like age, sex, occupation, and housing) within a specific area, typically every few years, to support planning, funding, and representation.
जनगणना एक सरकारी (या आधिकारिक) सर्वेक्षण है जिसमें किसी निश्चित क्षेत्र के लोगों की संख्या गिनी जाती है और अक्सर आयु, लिंग, पेशा तथा आवास जैसी जानकारी भी दर्ज की जाती है; यह आमतौर पर कुछ वर्षों के अंतराल पर होती है ताकि योजना, संसाधन-वितरण और प्रतिनिधित्व में मदद मिल सके।
