From catch + -ment (a noun-forming suffix), used especially for water-collection areas; later extended to mean a service area for institutions.
यह catch + -ment (संज्ञा बनाने वाला प्रत्यय) से बना है; पहले जल-संग्रह/निकासी क्षेत्रों के लिए प्रचलित हुआ, बाद में संस्थाओं के सेवा-क्षेत्र के अर्थ में भी प्रयोग होने लगा।
Definition
Catchment refers to (1) land or a structure that gathers rainwater/runoff and drains it into a river, lake, or reservoir (a drainage basin), and (2) the geographic area—and sometimes the people within it—served by an organization (e.g., a school catchment).
Catchment का अर्थ (1) ऐसा भू-भाग या संरचना है जो वर्षाजल/बहाव को इकट्ठा करके नदी, झील या जलाशय तक पहुँचाता है (जल-ग्रहण/निकासी द्रोणी), और (2) किसी संस्था (जैसे स्कूल/अस्पताल) द्वारा सेवा दी जाने वाली भौगोलिक सीमा—कभी-कभी उस क्षेत्र की जनसंख्या भी।
