Coined in the mid-19th century from but- (from butyric acid, ultimately from Latin butyrum 'butter') + -ane (suffix for alkanes).

Definition
Butane is an alkane hydrocarbon (C4H10) that is easily liquefied under pressure and commonly used in lighters, portable stoves, and LPG mixtures; it is highly flammable and can pose explosion/asphyxiation risks in confined spaces.
ब्यूटेन एक एल्केन हाइड्रोकार्बन (C4H10) है जो दबाव में आसानी से द्रवित हो जाता है और आम तौर पर लाइटर, पोर्टेबल स्टोव तथा एलपीजी मिश्रणों में ईंधन/प्रोपेलेंट के रूप में उपयोग होता है; यह अत्यंत ज्वलनशील है और बंद जगहों में विस्फोट/दम घुटने का जोखिम पैदा कर सकता है।
