From bush (“wild country, wooded or scrub land”) + man; used in English from the 18th–19th centuries for Indigenous peoples of southern Africa, especially those now commonly referred to as the San.
‘bush’ (जंगली/झाड़ीदार इलाका) + ‘man’ से बना; अंग्रेज़ी में 18वीं–19वीं शताब्दी से दक्षिणी अफ्रीका के आदिवासी समुदायों के लिए प्रयुक्त, विशेषकर उन लोगों के लिए जिन्हें आज सामान्यतः ‘सान’ कहा जाता है।
Definition
A term historically used for Indigenous peoples of southern Africa (especially the San); today it can be considered outdated or insensitive, and “San” is often preferred. In a broader sense, it may also mean someone living in the bush or wilderness.
दक्षिणी अफ्रीका के आदिवासी समुदायों (विशेषकर सान) के लिए ऐतिहासिक रूप से प्रयुक्त शब्द; आज यह शब्द कई संदर्भों में पुराना या आपत्तिजनक माना जा सकता है, इसलिए अक्सर “San/सान” को प्राथमिकता दी जाती है। व्यापक अर्थ में यह ऐसे व्यक्ति के लिए भी आ सकता है जो झाड़ीदार/जंगली इलाके (बुश) में रहता या काम करता हो।
