Formed from Botrytis (a genus name for the fungus; from Greek botrys “bunch of grapes”) + -ize, meaning “to cause to become/subject to.”
Botrytis (फफूँद का वंश-नाम; यूनानी botrys ‘अंगूरों का गुच्छा’ से) + -ize प्रत्यय (अर्थ: ‘किसी प्रक्रिया के अधीन करना/वैसा बना देना’) से निर्मित।
Definition
To deliberately allow or cause grapes to be affected by the fungus Botrytis cinerea so that they shrivel and concentrate sugars and flavors ("noble rot"), used in making certain dessert wines.
