यह शब्द मध्य अंग्रेज़ी के माध्यम से आया, और मूलतः पुरानी फ़्रेंच ‘bosc’ (जंगल/उपवन) से निकला है; यह फ़्रेंच ‘bois’ (लकड़ी/वन) से संबंधित है, तथा अंग्रेज़ी विशेषण-प्रत्यय ‘-y’ जुड़कर ‘bosky’ बना।
Definition
Used mainly to describe a place or landscape that is richly covered with trees and shrubs, giving a wooded, shady feel; it can also describe something made or caused by trees (e.g., shade), and in rare/informal use it can mean 'drunk'.
