Origin & History
From Old English burh/burg (“fortified place, town”), later Middle English borwe/borugh; the modern civic sense developed in medieval England for towns with self-governing privileges.
यह शब्द पुरानी अंग्रेज़ी burh/burg (अर्थ: किला-बंद स्थान, नगर) से आया; बाद में मध्य अंग्रेज़ी borwe/borugh के रूप में चला। आधुनिक प्रशासनिक/नागरिक अर्थ मध्ययुगीन इंग्लैंड में स्वशासनाधिकार वाले नगरों के संदर्भ में विकसित हुआ।
Definition
Boroughs are administrative districts or self-governing towns; in some countries they are subdivisions of a city (like the five boroughs of New York City).
'बरो' प्रशासनिक जिले या स्वशासी कस्बे/नगर होते हैं; कुछ देशों में ये किसी बड़े शहर के उप-विभाग होते हैं (जैसे न्यूयॉर्क सिटी के पाँच बरो)।
