From book + making; in betting, a bookmaker originally recorded bets in a ‘book’ (ledger). The ‘making’ refers to compiling and balancing these entries (and setting odds).
book (लेजर/खाता) + making से बना; सट्टेबाज़ी में ‘बुकमेकर’ मूलतः दाँवों को एक ‘बुक’ (खाते) में दर्ज करता था। ‘making’ का अर्थ उन प्रविष्टियों को संकलित/संतुलित करना (और ऑड्स तय करना) है।
Definition
Bookmaking most commonly means the business of accepting bets and setting odds (especially on sports); less commonly, it can mean the craft or process of making books.
बुकमेकिंग का सबसे सामान्य अर्थ दाँव (शर्त) स्वीकार करने और (खासकर खेलों में) ऑड्स/भाव तय करने के व्यवसाय से है; कम प्रचलित अर्थ में यह किताबें बनाने की कला या प्रक्रिया भी हो सकती है।
