Definition
Benzil is an aromatic diketone (a compound with two carbonyl groups) consisting of two phenyl rings linked by a two-carbon dicarbonyl unit; it commonly appears as pale yellow crystals and is used in laboratories and industry as a reagent/intermediate in making other organic compounds.
