From French 'attitude' and Italian 'attitudine', from Late Latin 'aptitudo' (“fitness, aptitude”), related to Latin 'aptus' (“fit, suitable”); later extended to mean bodily posture and then mental stance.

Attitudes are a person’s settled views, feelings, and habitual ways of responding to people, ideas, or situations; the word can also mean posture or stance.
