Origin & History
From "arris" (a sharp edge or ridge in carpentry/stonework) + adverbial "-ways" meaning "in the manner/direction of"; comparable to "edgeways".
"arris" (बढ़ईगीरी/पत्थर-कारी में तीखा किनारा या धार) + क्रियाविशेषणात्मक "-ways" (अर्थ: ढंग/दिशा में) से बना; "edgeways" के समान।
Definition
Used (chiefly archaic) to describe something positioned on its edge rather than flat, as with a board or blade; often interchangeable with "edgeways/edgewise".
