From Punjabi ardās, from Persian arz-dāsht (“petition, memorial”), from arz (“petition”) + dāsht (“holding/keeping; written statement”).
पंजाबी ‘अरदास’ से; यह फ़ारसी ‘अर्ज़-दाश्त’ (अर्थ: निवेदन/प्रार्थना-पत्र) से आया माना जाता है, जिसमें ‘अर्ज़’ (निवेदन) + ‘दाश्त’ (लिखित वक्तव्य/अभिलेख) शामिल हैं।
Definition
Ardass is a formal prayer or humble request, especially the Sikh congregational prayer recited to seek guidance, blessing, or gratitude, often performed standing with folded hands.
