Origin & History
From Amish, named after Jakob Ammann (1644–c.1730), a Swiss Anabaptist leader whose followers split from the Mennonites; the name ultimately derives from the surname Ammann.

Definition
Amish refers to members of a traditional Anabaptist Christian community, mainly in the United States, noted for simple living, plain dress, close-knit community life, and in many groups limited use of modern technology. It can also be used as an adjective meaning 'relating to the Amish.'
