From Latin ambiguus (“uncertain, having double meaning”), from ambigere (“to wander about; to be in doubt”), formed from ambi- (“both, on both sides”) + agere (“to drive, do”).

Ambiguity is a condition in which a word, phrase, statement, or situation can be understood in two or more ways, making the intended meaning unclear.
