Origin & History
From air + plane (short for aeroplane), used widely in American English from the early 20th century; aeroplane comes from French aéroplane (aéro- ‘air’ + -plane ‘flat surface’).

An airplane is a powered aircraft with fixed wings and one or more engines, designed to fly by generating lift as air moves over its wings; it is used for travel, transport, and military or emergency operations.
हवाई जहाज़ एक इंजन-चालित, स्थिर-पंखों वाला विमान होता है जो पंखों के ऊपर से हवा के बहाव द्वारा उत्पन्न ‘लिफ्ट’ के सहारे उड़ता है; इसका उपयोग यात्रा, माल-ढुलाई तथा सैन्य या आपातकालीन कार्यों में किया जाता है।
