Origin & History
From French agglomération, from Latin agglomerare ‘to form into a ball/cluster’, from ad- ‘to’ + glomerare ‘to wind into a ball’ (from glomus ‘ball’).

Definition
Agglomerations are groups of things or people that have come together into a mass or cluster; in geography and urban planning, they often refer to urban agglomerations—continuous built-up areas formed when towns or suburbs expand and merge.
