Origin & History
Affinity comes from Latin “affinitas” (‘relationship by marriage’, later ‘close connection’), from “affinis” (‘related, neighboring’). In modern English it developed the sense of ‘natural liking/attraction’, and the pattern “affinity for + noun” became common to mark the object of that liking.
