From adult + -hood; adult comes via Middle French from Latin adultus (“grown up”), from adolescere (“to grow up”).

Definition
Adulthood is the stage of human life when a person has reached physical maturity and is generally considered to have adult responsibilities and rights; it also refers to the time period from becoming an adult until death.
