Definition
An abattis is a field fortification made by cutting down trees and arranging them with their sharpened branches pointing toward the enemy to slow or stop an advance, often used around camps, trenches, or fort walls.
अबैटिस (abattis) एक मैदानी रक्षा-व्यवस्था है जिसमें पेड़ों को काटकर इस तरह बिछाया जाता है कि उनकी नुकीली/कटी शाखाएँ शत्रु की ओर रहें, ताकि उसकी गति धीमी हो या वह आगे न बढ़ सके; इसे अक्सर शिविरों, खाइयों या किलेबंदी के आसपास लगाया जाता है।
