মধ্য ইংরেজি whorle/whirle থেকে এসেছে; এটি পুরাতন ইংরেজি hweorfan (‘ঘোরা/আবর্তিত হওয়া’) এবং ‘ঘোরা’ অর্থবোধক জার্মানিক মূলের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত।
Definition
Whorls are spiral or circular formations, such as curls of hair, the coiled shape seen in shells, the ring-like arrangement of leaves or petals around a plant stem, or the swirl patterns of ridges on fingertips.
Whorl বলতে সর্পিল বা বৃত্তাকার গঠনকে বোঝায়—যেমন চুলের কুণ্ডলী, শামুক/ঝিনুকের খোলসের পাক, গাছের কাণ্ডের চারদিকে পাতা/পাপড়ির বৃত্তাকার বিন্যাস, অথবা আঙুলের ছাপের ঘূর্ণি-ধাঁচের রেখাচিত্র।
