Whitethorn is a common name used for several thorny shrubs or small trees; most often it refers to the European hawthorn species Crataegus monogyna, but in different regions it can also mean Bursaria spinosa (Australia), Vachellia constricta (whitethorn acacia), or Ceanothus leucodermis (chaparral whitethorn).
