From up + stream, literally ‘toward the upper part of a stream/river’; later extended metaphorically to earlier/source stages in processes and to the original source/maintainers in software.

Definition
Upstream means moving or located against the direction of a current (especially a river), and by extension it can mean closer to the source or earlier stages of a system or process (e.g., oil & gas exploration, client→server direction, DNA 5′ direction, or original software maintainers).
Upstream বলতে বোঝায় স্রোতের (বিশেষ করে নদীর) প্রবাহের বিপরীত দিকে চলা বা অবস্থান করা; রূপকভাবে এটি কোনো ব্যবস্থা/প্রক্রিয়ার উৎসের কাছাকাছি বা প্রাথমিক পর্যায়কেও বোঝায় (যেমন তেল-গ্যাস অনুসন্ধান, ক্লায়েন্ট→সার্ভার দিক, DNA-এর 5′ দিক, বা সফটওয়্যারের মূল রক্ষণাবেক্ষণকারীরা)।
