un- (“না/অ-”) উপসর্গ + ratified (ratify ক্রিয়ার past participle); ratify এসেছে লাতিন ratus (“স্থির/নিশ্চিত/অনুমোদিত”) থেকে, ফরাসি/লাতিন প্রভাবিত -fy গঠনে; অর্থাৎ আক্ষরিকভাবে “অনুমোদিত/অনুসমর্থিত হয়নি এমন।”
