From Middle English tripe, from Old French tripe (“entrails”), of uncertain (possibly Germanic) origin; later extended figuratively to mean “nonsense.”
মধ্য ইংরেজি tripe থেকে, যা পুরনো ফরাসি tripe (“নাড়িভুঁড়ি/অন্ত্র”) থেকে এসেছে; উৎস অনিশ্চিত (সম্ভবত জার্মানিক); পরে রূপক অর্থে “আজগুবি/অর্থহীন কথা” অর্থেও ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Definition
Tripe mainly means the prepared lining of the stomach of ruminant animals (like cow, sheep) eaten as food; figuratively, it also means something considered worthless, silly, or nonsensical (especially writing or entertainment), and as an interjection it can mean “That’s not true.”
Tripe বলতে প্রধানত গরু/ভেড়া ইত্যাদি জাবরকাটা প্রাণীর পাকস্থলীর ভোজ্য আস্তরণ (খাবার হিসেবে প্রস্তুত করা) বোঝায়; রূপক অর্থে এটি তুচ্ছ, বাজে বা অর্থহীন লেখা/বিনোদনকেও বোঝায়; আর উক্তি হিসেবে ব্যবহার হলে অর্থ হতে পারে “এটা সত্য নয়/মিথ্যা কথা।”
