Origin & History
From Latin torus meaning “swelling, bulge; cushion,” from Greek toros “muscular, swelling.” In modern mathematics it came to mean the ring/doughnut-shaped surface.
লাতিন torus থেকে এসেছে, অর্থ “ফোলা/উঁচু অংশ; বালিশ,” যা গ্রিক toros (“পেশিবহুল, স্ফীত”) থেকে উদ্ভূত। আধুনিক গণিতে এটি আংটি/ডোনাট-আকৃতির পৃষ্ঠ বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Definition
A torus is a doughnut-shaped surface (like a ring), formed when a circle is rotated around an axis in its own plane that does not intersect the circle; in anatomy it can also mean a rounded bony growth.
টোরাস হলো ডোনাটের মতো আংটি-আকৃতির একটি পৃষ্ঠ/বস্তু, যা একটি বৃত্তকে তারই সমতলে এমন একটি অক্ষের চারদিকে ঘোরালে তৈরি হয় যা বৃত্তটিকে ছেদ করে না; শারীরবিদ্যায় এটি গোলাকার অস্থিময় উঁচু অংশ/বৃদ্ধিকেও বোঝায়।
