Formed from thio- (meaning ‘sulfur’, used in chemical naming) + alcohol; used to denote alcohol analogues where oxygen is replaced by sulfur (i.e., thiols).
thio- (রসায়নে ‘সালফার’ বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত উপসর্গ) + alcohol থেকে গঠিত; অ্যালকোহলের এমন সমতুল্য যৌগ বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত যেখানে অক্সিজেনের বদলে সালফার থাকে (অর্থাৎ থিওল)।
Definition
A thioalcohol is the sulfur analogue of an alcohol: it contains the functional group R–SH (called a thiol group) instead of R–OH. Thioalcohols are often strongly odorous and are used in organic synthesis and in making sulfur-containing compounds.
থিওঅ্যালকোহল হলো অ্যালকোহলের সালফার-সমতুল্য যৌগ: এতে R–OH-এর বদলে R–SH (থিওল/সালফহাইড্রিল) কার্যকরী গোষ্ঠী থাকে। থিওঅ্যালকোহলগুলোর গন্ধ প্রায়ই তীব্র হয় এবং জৈব সংশ্লেষণ ও সালফারযুক্ত যৌগ তৈরিতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
