‘থায়াজাইড’ শব্দটি থায়াজাইড-জাতীয় রাসায়নিক গঠন (থায়াজিনের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত) থেকে নামকরণ; শেষে বহুবচন বোঝাতে -s যোগ হয়েছে; চিকিৎসাবিজ্ঞানে এটি মূলত ২০শ শতকের মধ্যভাগে প্রচলিত হয়।
Definition
Thiazides are diuretic medicines commonly prescribed for hypertension and edema; they act in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney to reduce sodium reabsorption, increasing urine output and lowering blood volume and blood pressure.
থায়াজাইড হলো মূত্রবর্ধক (ডাইইউরেটিক) ওষুধের একটি শ্রেণি, যা সাধারণত উচ্চ রক্তচাপ ও শরীরে পানি জমা (এডিমা) কমাতে দেওয়া হয়; কিডনির ডিস্টাল কনভলিউটেড টিউবিউলে সোডিয়াম পুনঃশোষণ কমিয়ে প্রস্রাবের মাধ্যমে সোডিয়াম ও পানি বের করে, ফলে রক্তের পরিমাণ ও রক্তচাপ কমে।
