From tape + worm, referring to the worm’s long, flat, ribbon-like shape; tape is from Old English tǣppe/tæppe (a strip or ribbon), and worm is from Old English wyrm.
tape + worm থেকে গঠিত—কৃমিটির লম্বা, চ্যাপ্টা, ফিতার মতো আকৃতির কারণে এই নাম; tape শব্দটি প্রাচীন ইংরেজি tǣppe/tæppe (ফিতা/চেরা টুকরো) থেকে এবং worm শব্দটি প্রাচীন ইংরেজি wyrm থেকে এসেছে।
Definition
A tapeworm is a long, flat, segmented parasitic worm (cestode) that lives in the intestines of humans or other animals; it may spread through undercooked meat or contaminated food/water and can cause intestinal infection (tapeworm disease).
টেপওয়ার্ম হলো লম্বা, চ্যাপ্টা, খণ্ডিত এক ধরনের পরজীবী কৃমি (সেস্টোড), যা মানুষসহ নানা প্রাণীর অন্ত্রে বাস করে; অপর্যাপ্ত সেদ্ধ/রান্না করা মাংস বা দূষিত খাবার/পানির মাধ্যমে ছড়াতে পারে এবং অন্ত্রের সংক্রমণ (টেপওয়ার্ম রোগ) ঘটাতে পারে।
