From New Latin Symphytum, from Latin symphytum, from Greek sýmphuton ‘plant that grows together’, from syn- ‘together’ + phyton ‘plant’.
নতুন লাতিন Symphytum থেকে; লাতিন symphytum হয়ে গ্রিক sýmphuton (‘একসাথে জোড়া লাগে/একসাথে বেড়ে ওঠে এমন উদ্ভিদ’) থেকে এসেছে; syn- অর্থ ‘একসাথে’ + phyton অর্থ ‘উদ্ভিদ’।
Definition
Symphytum is a botanical genus (Boraginaceae) that includes comfrey plants; they have coarse, hairy leaves and bell-shaped flowers, and some species have been used traditionally for poultices and herbal remedies, though internal use is often discouraged due to pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
Symphytum হলো বোরেজ (Boraginaceae) গোত্রের এক ধরনের উদ্ভিদ-গণের (genus) নাম, যার মধ্যে কমফ্রি (comfrey) গাছগুলো পড়ে; এদের পাতা খসখসে ও লোমশ এবং ঘণ্টার মতো আকৃতির ফুল হয়। কিছু প্রজাতি ঐতিহ্যগতভাবে ক্ষতস্থানে লেপ/পোল্টিস ও ভেষজ চিকিৎসায় ব্যবহৃত হলেও, পাইরোলিজিডিন অ্যালকালয়েডের কারণে ভেতরে সেবন অনেক ক্ষেত্রে নিরুৎসাহিত করা হয়।
