ইংরেজি switch (সুইচ) + board (বোর্ড) থেকে; সুইচ লাগানো বোর্ড বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হতো, এবং উনিশ শতকের শেষ দিকে টেলিফোন কল সংযোগ/রাউটিংয়ের অর্থে প্রচলিত হয়।

সুইচবোর্ড হলো সুইচ ও সংযোগসহ একটি কেন্দ্রীয় প্যানেল/ইউনিট, যা টেলিফোন কল সঠিক প্রাপকের কাছে সংযোগ করতে (বিশেষত অফিস/কল সেন্টারে) বা বৈদ্যুতিক সার্কিটের বিদ্যুৎ বণ্টন ও নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
