“suppose” ক্রিয়া থেকে; মধ্য ইংরেজিতে পুরনো ফরাসি “supposer” হয়ে এসেছে, যার উৎস লাতিন “supponere” (অর্থ: ‘নিচে রাখা/বদলে বসানো; ধরে নেওয়া/অনুমান করা’), গঠিত sub- (‘নিচে’) + ponere (‘রাখা/স্থাপন করা’) থেকে।
Definition
“Supposing” is used mainly (1) as a conjunction meaning “if” or “assuming that” to introduce a hypothetical situation, and (2) as the -ing form of the verb “suppose,” meaning to assume, believe, or hypothesize; it can also be a noun meaning the act of making a supposition.
“Supposing” সাধারণত (১) সংযোজক হিসেবে “যদি” বা “ধরে নিলে/ধরে নেওয়া যাক” অর্থে কোনো কাল্পনিক বা শর্তাধীন পরিস্থিতি বোঝাতে, এবং (২) ‘suppose’ ক্রিয়ার -ing রূপ হিসেবে “অনুমান করা/ধরে নেওয়া/বিশ্বাস করা/কল্পনা করা” অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়; কখনও কখনও বিশেষ্য হিসেবেও “অনুমান করার কাজ” বোঝায়।
