অনুকারধর্মী/ধ্বন্যানুকরণমূলক উৎস; ১৬শ শতকের শেষভাগে ভেজা টান-ধরা ‘চপচপ’ শব্দ অনুকরণ করে শব্দটি গড়ে ওঠে; পরে অর্থ বিস্তৃত হয়ে ‘চেপে ধরা/দমন করা’ বোঝায়, এবং রেডিও প্রযুক্তিতে অপ্রয়োজনীয় শোঁশোঁ/স্ট্যাটিক দমনের অর্থেও ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Definition
Squelch means (1) to make or cause a wet, sucking/splashing sound, especially when walking in mud; and (2) to stop, silence, or crush something (like rumors, criticism, or opposition), often abruptly or by force; in radio, it also refers to suppressing background hiss/static when no strong signal is present.
Squelch বলতে (১) কাদা/ভেজা মাটির ওপর হাঁটার সময় ‘চপচপ/চ্যাপচ্যাপ’ ধরনের ভেজা টান-ধরা শব্দ করা বা করানো; এবং (২) কোনো কিছু (যেমন গুজব, সমালোচনা, বিরোধিতা) হঠাৎ/জোর করে থামিয়ে দেওয়া, চেপে রাখা বা দমন করা বোঝায়; রেডিও প্রযুক্তিতে এটি সংকেত দুর্বল হলে পটভূমির শোঁশোঁ/স্ট্যাটিক শব্দ দমন করার সেটিং/প্রক্রিয়াকেও বোঝায়।
