Definition
Spudding refers mainly to starting the drilling of a well (often an oil well), including the up-and-down or drop-bit action used in some drilling methods; it can also mean scraping/chipping off roofing aggregate and top bituminous coating, and in camping it means setting up and leveling an RV and connecting utilities at a campsite.
