লাতিন species (অর্থ: ‘চেহারা/রূপ, ধরন/জাত’) থেকে এসেছে; যা specere (‘দেখা’) ধাতু থেকে উদ্ভূত।
Definition
Species means a particular kind or category; in biology it is the basic unit of classification, referring to organisms that are similar and can breed with one another to produce fertile young.
Species বলতে কোনো নির্দিষ্ট ধরন/শ্রেণি বোঝায়; জীববিজ্ঞানে এটি শ্রেণিবিন্যাসের মৌলিক একক—এমন জীবসমষ্টি যারা পরস্পরের সঙ্গে প্রজনন করে উর্বর (fertile) বংশধর উৎপন্ন করতে পারে।
