soft + point থেকে গঠিত; নরম (সীসা) ধারালো আগাযুক্ত প্রজেক্টাইল বোঝাতে এই নাম। আগ্নেয়াস্ত্র ও গোলাবারুদ প্রসঙ্গে শব্দটি উনিশ শতকের শেষভাগ থেকে বিশ শতকের শুরুর দিকে ব্যবহৃত হতে দেখা যায়।
Definition
A soft-point is a type of rifle or handgun bullet whose tip is left as soft lead (not fully covered by a hard jacket), so it mushrooms/expands when it hits a target, increasing wound channel and energy transfer; commonly used for hunting.
সফট-পয়েন্ট হলো রাইফেল বা হ্যান্ডগানের এমন এক ধরনের বুলেট যার আগা নরম সীসা (হার্ড জ্যাকেটে পুরোপুরি ঢাকা নয়) অবস্থায় থাকে; লক্ষ্যবস্তুতে আঘাত করলে এটি ‘মাশরুম’ মতো ফুলে যায়, ফলে ক্ষতচ্যানেল ও শক্তি স্থানান্তর বাড়ে; সাধারণত শিকারে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
