From French socialiste (19th century), based on social and socialism, ultimately from Latin socius (“companion, ally”).
ফরাসি socialiste (উনিশ শতক) থেকে আগত; এটি social ও socialism শব্দভিত্তিক, যার গভীর উৎস লাতিন socius (‘সঙ্গী/সহচর, মিত্র’)।
Definition
Socialists are individuals who believe society should reduce economic inequality by using collective or public ownership, democratic control, or strong public regulation of major industries and services.
সমাজতন্ত্রে বিশ্বাসী বা সমাজতন্ত্রের পক্ষে থাকা ব্যক্তিরাই ‘সোশ্যালিস্ট’/সমাজতন্ত্রী; যারা অর্থনৈতিক বৈষম্য কমাতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ শিল্প-সেবা ও সম্পদের ওপর সমষ্টিগত/রাষ্ট্রীয় মালিকানা, গণতান্ত্রিক নিয়ন্ত্রণ, বা কঠোর জননিয়ন্ত্রণকে সমর্থন করেন।
