soap + stone থেকে গঠিত; ট্যাল্ক বেশি থাকায় স্পর্শে মসৃণ ও ‘সাবানের মতো’ অনুভূতি হয় বলে এ নাম। খনিজ-নাম steatite-এর সঙ্গেও সম্পর্কিত।
Definition
Soapstone is a soft rock rich in talc (often with serpentine and minerals such as magnetite, dolomite, or calcite). Because it is heat-resistant and easy to carve, it is used for sculptures, countertops, stoves, and lab benches; as a verb (rare), it means to scrub with soapstone.
সোপস্টোন (সাবানপাথর) হলো ট্যাল্ক-সমৃদ্ধ এক ধরনের নরম শিলা (প্রায়ই সার্পেনটাইন ও ম্যাগনেটাইট/ডোলোমাইট/ক্যালসাইট ইত্যাদি খনিজ থাকে)। তাপ-সহনশীল ও সহজে খোদাই করা যায় বলে এটি ভাস্কর্য, কাউন্টারটপ, চুলা/ফায়ারপ্লেস এবং ল্যাব বেঞ্চে ব্যবহৃত হয়; ক্রিয়া হিসেবে (বিরল) এর অর্থ সোপস্টোন দিয়ে ঘষে/স্ক্রাব করে পরিষ্কার করা।
