Origin & History
From the verb skirt (to go along the edge of), derived from skirt (a garment), from Old Norse skyrta (“shirt, tunic”). The architectural sense developed from the idea of an edging/border.
skirt ক্রিয়া (ধার ঘেঁষে যাওয়া) থেকে skirting এসেছে; skirt (পোশাক) শব্দটি প্রাচীন নর্স skyrta (“শার্ট/টিউনিক”) থেকে এসেছে। স্থাপত্য/ঘরোয়া ব্যবহারে ‘ধার/সীমানা ঢাকার ফিতা/বোর্ড’ ধারণা থেকে স্কার্টিং বোর্ডের অর্থ গড়ে ওঠে।
Definition
Skirting can mean (1) a narrow board/strip fixed along the bottom of an interior wall to cover the joint between wall and floor (also called a baseboard), and (2) avoiding or going around the edge of something—often used figuratively for avoiding a problem or topic.
Skirting বলতে (১) ঘরের ভেতরের দেয়ালের নিচের অংশে মেঝের সঙ্গে সংযোগস্থল ঢাকতে লাগানো সরু কাঠ/ফিতা/বোর্ড (বেসবোর্ড/স্কার্টিং বোর্ড), এবং (২) কোনো কিছুর ধার ঘেঁষে ঘুরে যাওয়া বা এড়িয়ে যাওয়া—রূপকভাবে কোনো সমস্যা/বিষয়কে মোকাবিলা না করে পাশ কাটানো বোঝায়।
