From selenium + the suffix -ide (used for binary compounds/ions), ultimately from Greek selēnē “moon” (source of the element name selenium).
selenium শব্দটি এসেছে গ্রিক selēnē “চাঁদ” থেকে (যেখান থেকে মৌল selenium-এর নাম), আর -ide প্রত্যয়টি দ্বিপদী যৌগ/ঋণায়নের নামকরণে ব্যবহৃত হয়; ফলে selenium + -ide থেকে selenide।

A selenide is a chemical compound in which selenium is combined with another element, typically a metal; in ionic selenides selenium commonly has the −2 oxidation state (Se²⁻), analogous to sulfides.
সেলেনাইড হলো এমন একটি রাসায়নিক যৌগ যেখানে সেলেনিয়াম অন্য কোনো মৌলের (সাধারণত কোনো ধাতুর) সাথে যুক্ত থাকে; আয়নিক সেলেনাইডে সেলেনিয়ামের জারণ সংখ্যা সাধারণত −2 (Se²⁻), যা সালফাইডের অনুরূপ।
