Origin & History
From the verb scruple (to hesitate on moral grounds), from Latin scrupulus (“a small sharp stone; a source of anxiety or doubt”), which led to the sense of ‘scruples’ meaning moral misgivings.
scruple ক্রিয়া থেকে (নৈতিক কারণে ইতস্তত হওয়া), যার উৎস লাতিন scrupulus—অর্থ ‘ছোট ধারালো পাথর; উদ্বেগ/সন্দেহের কারণ’; সেখান থেকেই ‘scruples’ অর্থাৎ নৈতিক দ্বিধা/বিবেকের খটকা অর্থটি এসেছে।
Definition
Scrupling describes a person’s act of hesitating, objecting, or holding back because of scruples (moral doubts), often appearing overly conscientious or fussy about right and wrong.
Scrupling বলতে বোঝায় নৈতিক দ্বিধা/বিবেকের বাধার কারণে ইতস্তত করা, আপত্তি তোলা, বা কাজ থেকে সরে থাকা—অনেক সময় অতিরিক্ত নীতিনিষ্ঠ বা খুঁতখুঁতে হিসেবে প্রতীয়মান হওয়া।
