Origin & History
From reform + -atory; influenced by late Latin reformare (“to form again, reshape”). First used in English in the 19th century, especially for institutions aimed at rehabilitating offenders.
‘reform’ শব্দের সাথে ‘-atory’ প্রত্যয় যুক্ত হয়ে গঠিত; লেট ল্যাটিন reformare (‘আবার গঠন করা/পুনর্গঠন করা’) দ্বারা প্রভাবিত। ইংরেজিতে ১৯শ শতকে বিশেষভাবে অপরাধী পুনর্বাসনমূলক প্রতিষ্ঠানের অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হতে শুরু করে।
Definition
A reformatory is an institution (often for young offenders) where people are kept and given education, discipline, and guidance to help them change their behavior and reintegrate into society; as an adjective it means intended to bring about reform.
রিফরমেটরি হলো এমন একটি প্রতিষ্ঠান/কারাগার (প্রায়ই কিশোর অপরাধীদের জন্য) যেখানে মানুষকে রাখা হয় এবং শিক্ষা, শৃঙ্খলা ও দিকনির্দেশনার মাধ্যমে তাদের আচরণ সংশোধন করে সমাজে পুনঃস্থাপনে সহায়তা করা হয়; বিশেষণ হিসেবে এর অর্থ ‘সংস্কার/সংশোধনমূলক’।
