Definition

Rasp refers to (1) a coarse metal tool used to shape or smooth wood/bone by scraping, (2) the harsh grating sound it makes (or any similar sound), and as a verb it means to use such a tool, to scrape/file something with it, or to grate on someone’s nerves by rough words or treatment.
