মধ্য ইংরেজি *quotient* থেকে, যা লাতিন *quotiens* (“কতবার/কতবার ঘটে”) শব্দ থেকে উদ্ভূত।
Definition
In mathematics, quotients are the results you get when one quantity is divided by another (e.g., 12 ÷ 4 = 3). By extension, the term can refer to outcomes of division-like inverse operations in more general algebraic structures, and in older/rare usage it may mean a quota or allotted share.
গণিতে, ‘quotients’ হলো ভাগ করার ফলে যে ফলাফল পাওয়া যায় (যেমন, ১২ ÷ ৪ = ৩)। বিস্তৃত অর্থে, সংখ্যা ছাড়াও অন্যান্য গাণিতিক সত্তায় গুণনের বিপরীতধর্মী (division-like) ক্রিয়ার ফলকেও বোঝাতে পারে। পুরোনো/বিরল ব্যবহারে এটি ‘quota’ বা নির্ধারিত অংশ/কোটাকেও নির্দেশ করতে পারে।
