From profane + -ness; profane comes from Latin profanus (“outside the temple; not sacred”), from pro- (“before/outside”) + fanum (“temple”).

Profaneness is the act or condition of showing disrespect for religion, sacred people/objects, or holy practices, often by treating them casually or by using blasphemous or obscene speech.
