Origin & History
From Medieval Latin prelāti(c)us, from Latin praelatus (“prelate”), literally “carried before,” from prae- (“before”) + latus (past participle of ferre, “to carry”).
মধ্যযুগীয় লাতিন prelāti(c)us থেকে; যা লাতিন praelatus (“প্রিলেট/উচ্চপদস্থ ধর্মযাজক”) থেকে এসেছে—আক্ষরিক অর্থ ‘সামনে বহন করা’; prae- (‘আগে/সামনে’) + latus (ferre ‘বহন করা’-এর অতীত সম্পৃক্ত রূপ) থেকে গঠিত।
