From poly- ('many') + -phyly (from Greek phylon 'tribe, race, lineage'), coined in scientific taxonomy to contrast with monophyly.

Definition
Polyphyly is a pattern in biological classification where a group is formed from organisms that come from multiple evolutionary lineages, excluding their most recent common ancestor; such groups are considered artificial in modern phylogenetics.
পলিফাইলি হলো জীববৈজ্ঞানিক শ্রেণিবিন্যাসে এমন একটি ধারা যেখানে একটি গোষ্ঠী গঠিত হয় বহু বিবর্তনীয় বংশধারা থেকে আসা জীব নিয়ে, কিন্তু তাদের সর্বশেষ সাধারণ পূর্বপুরুষকে (most recent common ancestor) গোষ্ঠীতে ধরা হয় না; আধুনিক ফাইলোজেনেটিক্সে এমন গোষ্ঠীকে কৃত্রিম/অপ্রাকৃত বলে গণ্য করা হয়।
