“Pollywogs” is the plural form of “pollywog,” commonly meaning tadpoles (young frogs); in nautical tradition it can mean a sailor who has not yet crossed the equator; and in some contexts it has been used as a slang term for a person of Polynesian (often Samoan) descent, which may be offensive.
