Definition
A plectrum is a small, usually triangular piece of plastic, metal, etc., used to pluck or strum the strings of instruments such as the guitar, mandolin, or lyre; in biology it can also mean a stiff projecting part (e.g., a ridge) used in sound-producing organs of some insects.
